Built by Congressman William Everhart (1785-1868) around 1833, the historic and beautiful Lincoln building is designed in the Federal style. It was the printing house where Abraham Lincoln’s first biography was published on February 11, 1860, as an article in the Chester County Times. The biography was reprinted across the state and played a role in Abraham Lincoln getting the Republican party nomination for president that May.
The landmark building now hosts the Chester County Community Foundation, and its employees and clients continue to sense spirits and hear unexplained noises in the building especially at night. One client upon visiting even sensed multiple ghosts on the premises and wrote out a letter detailing them. Further reason for spiritual activity is connected to the original town prison of the 1700s which was located across the street.
